Our Lord Yeshua associated the final Antichrist with an historical figure from the ancient past who desecrated the Temple of God and persecuted the faithful of the Jewish nation in the 2nd century BCE – and that was the Balkans-born Syrian dictator Antiochus IV Epiphanes! (1 & 2 Maccabees; Mt 24.15,16). The coming Antichrist will mimic Messiah in so many ways, and we need to know as much as we can about the original Danielic figure in order to fully recognise the Antichrist when he appears on the world scene and reigns through a world government centred in a city built on seven hills. There have been only three such cities in the ancient world -- Babylon, Rome and Jerusalem!
