THE 1050 NEW TESTAMENT "MITZVOT" Section 1

Messianic Lecturer (BRI/IMCF)

While the Sinai mitzvot concentrated on washings, rituals, cultic adherence, and physical ordinances for physical Israel, the 1050 New Covenant mitzvot superseded Sinai with an emphasis on the inward "man" -- the inner spiritual character of "Elect" humankind.

The following 1050 mitzvot are found in 800 categories. There will be a few apparent repetitions, however these mitzvot -- when they appear to be repeated -- are to be appreciated in relation to their textual surroundings and in consequence may then be reinterpreted according to circumstances and situations outlined in those various contexts.

The International Messianic Community of Faith (IMCF) stands in 2000 years of Christian educational heritage and history and these classifications of New Covenant mitzvot are the product of studious and astute Christian minds, such as Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones, John Stott, Louis Berkhof, and others. I have taken advantage of Finis Jennings Dake's categories of "NT Commandments" (and have adjusted, modified and expanded some of them in accordance with my grasp of the Messianic texts involved) and heretic as Dake may have been, on the matter of commandment classification I am in total agreement.

THE PRIME TEN MITZVOT
1. The first Word (Matthew 22.37)
2. The second Word (1 John 5.21; 1 Corinthians 10.19-21; John 4.24)

6. The sixth Word (Matthew 5.21,22; 1 John 3.15)
7. The seventh Word (Matthew 5.27,28; 19.9,18)
8. The eighth Word (Matthew 19.18; 15.19)
9. The ninth Word (Matthew 19.18)
10. The tenth Word (Romans 7.7; Matthew 19.21,22)

Rebbe,
I hope you are well and truly on the mend!
I read this on a different board and had a question, but didn't have the time then to post it, and I wanted to look up the scripture first to see if I could figure it out for myself. Since you re-posted this I reminded myself to do just that and I am no clearer on what you mean.  Can you please explain what you mean about:

"MITZVOT -- CONCERNING INTENTIONS
55. Instant seasonally in relation to Israel's agricultural festivals (2 Timothy 4.2)"

The Holman Christian Standard Bible reads "Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching."
I didn't have other versions at the ready to check, and it can be 'different' in many instances, so I'm still stumped about the "Instant" and I don't know if my version should be referring to the festivals, but I don't see any mention of them in any of the surrounding verses.
I looked at 2 Timothy 2:4, and also 1 Timothy 4:2 and 2:4 just in case there was a typo, but they did not help clarify it either.
Shalom,
Jennifer

Shalom Jennifer!

Yes, I am very much on the mend and I thank you for enquiring about my health. And, also for this question. Actually, put your mind at rest (LOL) for 2 Tim 4.2 is the intended text.

Paul is writing to Timothy (and in an expanded way to all who would teach others about the festivals and their meaning) to be "seasonally" engaged -- that is, placing a priority on the meaning of these festivals and annual sabbaths when they are scheduled to periodically appear. So when he writes with a command to "be instant" it simply means "be ready," "be fully prepared" with the subject matter that pertains to any specific festival. The Greek scholar Marvin Vincent clarifies this when he writes, "Instant signifies urgent, importunate, persevering... to press upon...so... [in] Romans xii.12, "continue instant in prayer" (See Vincent, Word Studies in the New Testament, Vol.4, 319).

It's a pity in my opinion that Gentile scholars who have opted to translate Jewish material (and I include the NT specifically in this assessment) have failed to grasp that Paul was speaking about the agricultural festivals in his command to Timothy in this his second letter. A Jewish mind would immediately grasp the connection. But many versions of the NT miss it entirely.

As you by now have come to realise, in some of my writings I occasionally resort to using words and language that for the most part has started to disappear from common use. In this instant I may have confused not just yourself but a number of other readers and students. My instant apologies therefore are in instant order and may they prevail.

Rebbe,

Thank you for the clarification.  I'll have to review the chapter with that perspective in mind.  (I'll put it on my list ;))

Drishat Shalom to you and the Rebbetzin, (I'm trying to learn some other new 'old' words while I'm at it)
